In the Lezíria, you can observe over 15 owls per kilometer! Research indicates that the southern Lezíria of Vila Franca de Xira, with its open agricultural landscape and extensive network of canals connected to the Tagus River, may be the most owl-rich area in the world. Join us for a unique experience to discover these fascinating and mysterious birds!

Program:

  • Initial Briefing (30 minutes after sunset): Participants will meet at EVOA for a short introduction. During this briefing, we’ll explain why nocturnal birds of prey gather in such large numbers at the end of summer. We’ll also share data collected over the years, providing insights into the population trends of these raptors and the scientific methods used during our transects.
