Located in the Tagus Estuary Natural Reserve, EVOA’s primary mission is the conservation of the estuary and Lezíria avifauna, alongside the protection of the natural and agricultural habitats on which these species depend. Our vision is to create a space where natural wealth is both valued and shared, offering visitors a unique experience while fostering a lasting connection with nature. We aim to ensure the preservation of bird diversity, facilitate scientific research, and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable water and land management.
Team and Partners
Our team is made up of professionals passionate about nature and environmental conservation, committed to providing unique educational and recreational experiences.
In collaboration with several organizations, such as the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN), the Association of Beneficiaries of the Lezíria Grande of Vila Franca de Xira (ABLGVFX), Aquaves, and others, we work daily to protect and promote the biodiversity of the Tagus Estuary. Additionally, we benefit from the support of volunteers in bird ringing activities and interns who help to enrich our work.
Companhia das Lezírias
EVOA is managed by Companhia das Lezírias, a historic company dedicated to sustainable agricultural and livestock management. The company owns 18,000 hectares, where innovative land management practices are implemented, integrating agriculture, nature conservation, and tourism. Through EVOA, Companhia das Lezírias strengthens its commitment to estuary conservation and raises awareness of the region’s natural and cultural values.
Projects
EVOA is involved in various conservation and research projects that contribute to the sustainable management of the land. Notable among these are LIFE European projects dedicated to the protection of species and habitats. We collaborate with universities on internships and scientific research, covering topics such as bird population dynamics, flora, and fauna associated with the wetlands, among others. Additionally, we participate in educational programs that align with national curricular goals, engaging students and teachers in activities that blend education with citizen science.
